WWA co-sponsored a Symposium on Climate Change and Utah’s Water Supply in partnership with the Salt Lake City National Weather Service Forecast Office and the Colorado Basin River Forecast Center. Topics for sessions include Climate Change, Water Supplies, and Utah; Water Supply and Seasonal Forecasts; and Climate and Water Information Needs. [Salt Lake City, Utah]

Workshop briefed participants on the NOAA-funded project to assess the climate change vulnerability of the City of Boulder's water resources. [Boulder, Colorado]

In order to gage forecast quality, users must know the accuracy and skill of forecasts--whether seasonal climate forecasts or water supply forecasts. This workshop introduced participants to the basics of forecast verification statistics using water supply forecasts. Presenters included NRCS forecasters, NOAA Western Regional personnel, and NOAA CBRFC forecasters. [Boulder, Colorado]

WWA organized an educational workshop for the Front Range water providers to cover the fundamentals and differences of GCMs, emissions scenarios, downscaling techniques, and hydrology modeling. [Denver, Colorado]

Tourism and recreation in the West are a large part of the economy and are strongly linked to climate.  This workshop focused on the development of a strategic research agenda to assess the economic, socio-cultural and environmental implications of climate extremes, variability and change for sustainable tourism. [Boulder, Colorado]

WWA co-sponsored a workshop with Denver Water to allow interaction among Front Range water providers on how different entities are planning, or might plan, to deal with climate chang- related impacts. This workshop was attended by water managers from Aurora, Westminster, Denver Water, Thornton, CWCB, Colorado Springs Utilities, Northern Water, and others. October 11-13, 2006

WWA co-sponsored a conference with the Mountain Studies Institute to facilitate information-sharing and interaction between scientists and local stakeholders regarding the implications and potential impacts of climate variability and change in the San Juan Mountains region. A second goal was to begin development of a San Juan Mountain (SJM) Climate Initiative, a climate research and outreach program. [Durango, Colorado]

WWA co-sponsored an all day workshop hosted by the University of Wyoming and others dedicated to understanding how climate variability and change impacts Wyoming’s water resources. This workshop was in Laramie, WY. 

Topics:  NOAA/CPC operational climate seasonal forecasts, the NOAA-USDA Climate Monitor, Klaus Wolter's Southwest Experimental Seasonal Forecasts,  and CDC experimental 6-10 day and 8-14 day intra-seasonal climate forecasts. [Cheyenne, Wyoming]
