Alec Wallen is a Master’s Student in the Environment, Natural Resources, and Society program at the University of Wyoming, concurrently pursuing a graduate certificate in GIS. His current research delves into the impact of individuals' residential proximity to wildfires on their perceptions of such events, examining past experiences and offering insights for future wildfire communication strategies. Alec is actively engaged with the NASA DEVELOP program, where he collaborates to identify high fuel loading areas near developments, addressing community safety from wildfires and contributing to forest management decision-making efforts. Leveraging NASA Earth observations, including ISS GEDI, Alec is investigating tree load dynamics, utilizing ancillary products to map tree mortality and detect burn patches. This comprehensive analysis informs strategies for managing wildfire crises in the region.

Alec's research interests seamlessly integrate elements of environmental science, GIS, and community safety. His use of advanced technologies, such as NASA Earth observations, underscores his commitment to data analysis and decision-making in the dynamic context of wildfires. As a McNair Scholar, Alec earned a BS in Geology, a BS in Environmental System Science, and an Undergraduate Certificate in GIS from the University of Wyoming.
